Tillie Specht's Thanksgiving Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 to 1 cup celery, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter
- 8 cups toasted bread, cubed (1 sandwich loaf)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon sage or poultry seasoning
- broth (from turkey or chicken broth)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Melt butter in saucepan; add onion, celery, and seasonings, and cook slowly until soft.
In a large bowl, combine the onion and celery with the toasted bread and eggs. Add broth to desired consistency. Spread out in a baking dish, dot with butter, cover with foil, and bake 45 minutes to an hour.
